Winter Reading
Program
Earn raffle tickets for reading this
winter. The more books that you read, the more raffle tickets
you get, the greater your chance of winning a prize. Raffle
tickets are rewarded for every 10 books read to a Read-To-Me Reader
and for every 5 books read by an Independent Reader.
Pick up your reading log starting Tuesday, January
2nd. Keep track of the books you read through the
months of January and February. The final raffle
drawing will be Friday, March 2nd. |

Our two and three-year old patrons will enjoy a musical storytime
and will create their own instruments to play. |

Chess Tournament Date: Saturday, February 3 Time:

Every year
Allegheny County holds a county-wide chess tournament for children
kindergarten through 8th grade. Students will first compete
against colleagues at our library. Winners continue on to the
city wide tournament. Register between January 2 and January
31. |

Saturday Boredom Busters Every
Saturday in January and February Time: 1:00-2:30

Stay warm at the
library. Board games, book bingo and crafts will help to fight
the winter blues. For children and their
families. |

Geode Jeff Date: Monday, February 19th
(Presidents' Day) Time: 11:00 am Geode Jeff has
new geodes and minerals to show us, as well as video footage from
his latest trip to Mexico. Geodes will be available for sale
ranging in price from $3 to 5. Ages 6 and
up. |

Aeolian Winds Date: Saturday, February 24th Time: 1:00
pm
The Aeolian Winds of Pittsburgh will present an
hour-long program entitled "Musical Storytelling." This
program will introduce the wind quintet's five instruments via
spoken words and musical examples. Children of all ages will
enjoy this performance. |

Zoo Visit Date: Saturday, March
10th Time: 11:00 am
A representative from the Pittsburgh Zoo will bring
several animals for you to meet. She will answer any questions
you may have about them or the zoo. This program is for all
ages. |

Fun with Origami Date: Saturday, March 24th Time: 2:00
pm
Learn how to make fantastic animals
using origami paper. Paper airplanes will be made as
well, followed by a flying contest. This program is for
children ages 6 and up. |

Fairy Flower Tea Party Date: Saturday,
April 14th Time: 2:00 pm
We will read abou tsome of our
favorite storybook characters and their tea parties, brush up on our
manners and have a tea party of our own. The event will end
with a craft. This program is for ages 6 and
up. |

Puppets and Peanut Butter Date:
Friday, April 20th Time: 11:00 am
Joann, the puppet maker, is back
for a program full of puppets, songs and stories. We will
provide peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and juice. This
program is excellent for toddlers and preschoolers. |

Handmade By Me Date:
Wednesday, May 2 Time: 4:00 pm
Get ready to
create special gifts for Mom and Dad. This program will focus
on creating handmade crafts for Mother's and Father's Day.
Recommended for children ages 5 and
up. |
