Winter Reading Program

Sign up in the library Children's Department
Read through the winter months and you can earn raffle tickets for a chance to win a Barnes & Noble gift card!
Raffle tickets are awarded for every 10 books read to a Read-to-Me reader and for every 5 books read by an Independent reader. Keep track of the books you read before the program ends on February 29. The winners will be announced on Saturday, March 3 before our movie is shown.

Monday, January 16 at 11 am
Geode Jeff (Jeff Smith) returns with a new program on rocks and minerals . He will offer to sell geodes from $3 to $5 each.

Knitty Kitties
Ages 7 and up
Learn how to knit with Grace Abbs. She'll introduce you to the basics of knitting and share stories. Knitting needles and yarn will be needed after the first class.
Lessons start: January 7 from 10:30 am to 12 pm
and will continue on Saturdays in January.

Some people give candy or flowers for Valentine's Day, but the library is holding a Valentine Tea! Wear your fancy dress and bring your best manners to our party. We will make special Valentine cards, wands and tiaras. We'll play games and enjoy tea and treats.

Dr. Seuss
Read Across America
Saturday, March 3 at 1 pm
Green is the theme for this year's special Read Across America celebration. The new Dr. Seuss Lorax movie opens on March 2, Dr. Seuss's birthday. We'll celebrate at the library by hearing favorite Dr. Seuss stories, making Dr. Seuss crafts and showing the new Dr. Seuss movie on Saturday. Birthday treats and appearances by a special guest will happen all week.

Birds of Prey

For All Ages
Beechwood Farms educators will visit us in March to present a program about birds of prey. Meet a red-tailed hawk up close with the possibility of visits from several other raptors. Families are invited to attend.

Graphic Novel Workshop

Boom! Crash! Zap!
Comic books have been popular since the 1930s with the first Superman comic. Learn how comic books have turned into graphic novels when Wayne Wise from Phantom of the Attic comic book shop comes to the library to share the exciting history of comic books.
After Wayne's talk, everyone will create their own mini comic book!

Ballet FUNdamentals
Saturday, March 31 at 1 pm
For ages 3 and up with families
The Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and the Hillman Center for the Performing Arts will present a fun program where you meet a ballerina, learn about ballet costumes and pointe shoes and have a chance to learn ballet positions!
Hear a ballet-inspired story and create a craft.
